On a Catamaran yacht charter there is plenty of usable deck space, which means plenty of room to spread out and relax. Due to their shape they have a large entertaining area at the stern of the Catamaran that is ideal for several couples sharing a yacht.
Normally the configuration is 4 or 5 Queen suites dependent upon the size of Catamaran and most suites are similar in design, which again is perfect if you are planning to share the yacht with a group of friends. The draft on a Catamaran is very shallow and so the crew can anchor close to shore; this make it’s really easy for the charter guests to swim to the beach.
Because Catamarans have a lot more storage space than other types of yachts they tend to offer an advanced water sports selection that normally includes waterskies, wakeboard, kneeboard, kayaks, standup-paddle-boards and snorkeling equipment as well as a good sized powerful dinghy. The larger Catamarans may also offer a Hobbie Cat or a Laser dinghy, Diver Propulsion Vehicles (DPVs) for use when diving, and the latest must-have in the water sports wardrobe – a water slide that attaches to the side of your yacht and is great fun for kids of all ages!
Most Catamaran charter yachts offer diving from the yacht; this is usually included in the charter price for a British Virgin Island charter, however there is usually a charge for other Caribbean destinations, the Mediterranean and the Rest of the World. Certain charter yachts will also offer PADI dive instruction as a full course or as a referral course for an additional fee per student. A referral course is great because it means that you get to undertake your four Open Water Dives in warm clear waters with great visibility instead of diving in a quarry back at home.
Some charter catamarans are now offering kiteboarding from the charter yacht for guests with experience of this sport, and some even offer tuition. If this is not an option on your desired yacht we can always fix up kiteboarding or any other activity for you with a local recommended operator.
Catamaran crewed charter yachts start at around 40 ft with manufacturers such as Leopard, increasing in size to include the very popular manufacturer Lagoon, Matrix and Sunreef to a bespoke custom built Superyacht Catamaran called Hemisphere which at present is the largest Catamaran in the world, built by Pendennis Shipyard England in 2011, it is 144 ft / 44 m in length and it offers luxurious accommodation for it’s 12 guests with a professional crew of eight.
